Norman Bilbrough Manuscript Assessment

Teaching Creative Writing

I taught Writing Short Stories privately in the late 1980s, and at Rongatai College Adult Education and Wellington Community College throughout the 1990s. I taught most genres on the Creative Writing Course at Whitireia Polytechnic in 2001, and have taught courses on the novel, and Writing for Children in subsequent years. I do manuscript appraisals for Whitireia. For three years I tutored on the extra-mural creative writing course at Massey University. I have also run weekend writing courses in Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin.

I have run many workshops (usually on the short story) for children and teenagers at the Katherine Mansfield Birthplace in Wellington; in secondary schools such as Onslow College, Queen Margaret's College, and Newlands College. I have tutored students in Invercargill for the Dan Davin Short Story Award, and I have run workshops as part of NZ Book Council author tours in schools from Kaitaia to Gisborne to Westport.

I am available to run Creative Workshops anywhere in New Zealand, for children as well as adults; and I am happy to come to individual arrangements regarding fees.
